BOTOX® in a Dental Office?
BOTOX® (onabotulinumtoxinA) is an FDA-approved medication administered through injection, known for its ability to eliminate unwanted wrinkles and create a more youthful appearance. This medication works by relaxing muscles that pull on overlying skin and cause wrinkles. While BOTOX® is commonly associated with aesthetic procedures, its application in a dental office is focused on targeting neck or face pain, persistnet migraines, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) issues, and teeth grinding. Dr. Reagan Smith uses BOTOX ® injections to temporarily block some of the “messages” sent to jaw muscles responsible for pain without impeding basic functions like eating or speaking.
What to Expect From Your BOTOX® Treatment
BOTOX® treatments are quick and non-invasive, requiring no incisions, stitches, or surgery. Dr. Smith administers the medication into the targeted muscles, which allows you to resume your daily activities immediately.
The full effects of the treatment are typically seen within one or two weeks, while some patients notice a difference as early as 24 hours afterward. The benefits of the treatment generally last up to four months. If you find BOTOX® treatment works for you, regular BOTOX® injections at our office are recommended. With ongoing treatments, some individuals experience extended durations of the results, meaning less frequent visits over time.
